Toyota Prius Fleet Completes Remarkable Feat

Jaffarian Toyota recently came across an intriguing video and would like to share with those in the Haverhill area. Throughout the film, cameras follow a California resident around town as he grabs lunch, gets his dry cleaning, and completes other daily errands in a Toyota Prius. Fascinating, right? No? Perhaps that's because we neglected to mention that this Californian is clinically blind.

Now things are sounding a bit more interesting. Before you start wondering how on earth a man who can't see can safely operate a Prius (or any auto for that matter), Jaffarian Toyota should also mention that the hybrid is completely autonomous. As in, no human help needed.

In case you haven't heard, Google has been working on a remarkable self-driving system and keeping things on the down low. The internet giant teamed up with Toyota and has been test driving a fleet of Prius hybrids in order to see how realistic such technology could be for the future. What have they found? In a word: success.

Throughout a relatively short amount of time the Google fleet of Toyota Prius hybrids has covered more than 200,000 miles of territory autonomously. And that's without a single bump or bruise mind you. For those curious tech-forward minds out there, the system works using a mixture of detailed mapping technology, artificial intelligence, and highly-advanced cameras. The self-driving system can navigate a predetermined route by interpreting road signs, vehicles, pedestrians, and traffic infrastructure along the way.

Shocked and amazed? We at Jaffarian Toyota sure were. Though this innovative technology has a few obstacles to push through before mass production, we invite you to tune in to our Toyota blog for more information as it comes. Also, don't hesitate to stop by 600 River St. Haverhill, MA 01832 and check out the current technology used in new Toyota models today.
